RCMP Investigation Updates

Update received August 1, 2025

On July 1, Cpl. Ryan LeMay and Cst. Jason Klipich attended Canada Day celebrations in Morinville in their traditional red serge uniforms.

On July 4, Morinville RCMP responded to three complaints of homes being broken into at Sandy Beach. A follow up investigation has led to charges of break and enter, theft, and property damage being laid against a 31 year-old woman from Edmonton.

On the early morning of July 8, Morinville RCMP responded to a complaint of an intoxicated man throwing rocks at security vehicles on the Alexander First Nation. Police attended and arrested a 38 year-old man who is charged with property damage, resisting arrest, and possession of methamphetamine.

On the morning of July 8, members of Morinville RCMP responded to a complaint of suspicious activity in a rural area on Township Road 572 in Sturgeon County. Police located a 2021 GMC Sierra stolen from Grande Prairie and a 2022 GMC Sierra stolen from Leduc. A 32 year-old man from Barriere, British Columbia, and a 28 year-old woman from Sturgeon County were arrested and charged with several crimes including possession of stolen property, possession of break-in instruments, and failing to comply with prior release conditions.

On the afternoon of July 9, Morinville RCMP responded to a complaint of suspicious activity in Sturgeon County just west of Morinville. Two suspects were found stealing various materials from a railyard. A 41 year-old man from Edmonton has been charged with theft, resisting arrest, break and enter, possessing break-in instruments, and failing to comply with prior release conditions. A 44 year-old woman from Edmonton has been charged with theft, resisting arrest, break and enter, possessing stolen property, and possessing break-in instruments.

From July 21 to 23, members of Morinville RCMP were proud to participate in the inaugural Youth Emergency Services Academy hosted by Sturgeon County in Riviere Qui Barre. Several police officers from Morinville Detachment and “K” Division assisted with presentations for youths aged 14 to 17 years old who have an interest in a future with emergency services. This included presentations on the various specialty functions within the RCMP, drill instruction, team building, and physical activities.

On the morning of July 24, Morinville RCMP responded to several complaints of delivery parcels being stolen from doorsteps of homes in the Sturgeon Valley, with suspects attempting to break into homes in some cases. A 28 year-old man from Maskwacis and a 38 year-old man from Edmonton were arrested later that morning and have been charged with various property related crimes including theft and possession of stolen property.

On the morning of July 25, Morinville RCMP responded to a complaint of suspicious activity near a storage facility in Legal. Police located and arrested a 37 year-old man from Westlock, who has been charged with possessing break-in instruments.

On July 26, members of Morinville RCMP were happy to participate in the Fete au Village parade in Legal. They were also accompanied by the RCMP “K” Division Pipe and Drum Band.

Shortly after midnight on July 29, a member of Morinville RCMP conducted a traffic stop at a service station in Gibbons. The vehicle was determined to be stolen from Woodlands County and attempted to flee, dragging the officer a short distance before crashing. Four occupants in the vehicle were arrested and taken into custody. A sawed off shotgun was found in the vehicle along with small amounts of methamphetamine and fentanyl. The police officer involved suffered minor injuries during the incident. The driver, a 42 year-old man from Onoway, is charged with possession of stolen property, driving while prohibited, assaulting a police officer, drug possession, failing to comply with prior release conditions, and several weapons related charges. A 34 year-old woman from the Alexander First Nation is charged with possession of stolen property, drug possession, possession of a forged document, and several weapons related charges. A 38 year-old man from Red Deer is charged with possessing stolen property, failing to comply with prior release conditions, and several weapons related charges. A 42 year-old woman from Minburn is charged with possessing stolen property, three counts of failing to comply with prior release conditions, and several weapons related charges.
