Community Safety Reminder: Off-Highway Vehicles Not Permitted Within Town Limits
The Town of Gibbons would like to address ongoing safety concerns regarding the use of Off-Highway Vehicles (OHVs) within our municipal boundaries.
We want to remind all residents and visitors that OHVs are strictly prohibited from operating within the Town of Gibbons, including on roads, sidewalks, trails, green spaces, and in residential areas. This restriction is in place to protect public safety, reduce noise disturbances, and maintain the peaceful character of our community.
In recent weeks, the Town has received a number of complaints related to OHV activity, including:
- Noise disruption in residential neighbourhoods
- Damage to public and private property
- Safety risks to pedestrians, cyclists, and children at play
These concerns are being taken seriously. The Town, in cooperation with local law enforcement, will be increasing patrols and enforcing the prohibition of OHVs within town limits. Fines may be issued to individuals operating these vehicles unlawfully.
We recognize that OHVs are commonly used in rural areas surrounding Gibbons. However, all operators must ensure they are outside of town boundaries before riding. Additionally, riders are reminded to follow all applicable bylaws and regulations in neighbouring municipalities and rural jurisdictions, including requirements for helmets, registration, insurance, and designated trail use.
Thank you for your cooperation in helping keep Gibbons a safe, respectful, and enjoyable community for all.
