The Town of Gibbons is always looking for ways to reduce our carbon footprint as well as our impact on the environment while remaining fiscally responsible to our residents.
The Town of Gibbons is happy to announce its participation in a joint pilot project with Alberta Municipalities and Trane Technologies to upgrade the lighting in the Gibbons Arena, Gibbons Curling Rink, and Gibbons Cultural Centre.
Work on this project was completed in September and is expected to substantially reduce the facilities carbon footprint through the reduction of Green House Gas (GHG) production as well as reduce overall facility operation costs.
Through this partnership, the cost of the upgrades was offset with a grant from the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre (MCCAC). Of the approximately $122,500.00 capital cost of the upgrades MCCAC contributed $89,146.50 with the Town of Gibbons contributing the remaining funds.
Currently, the Town of Gibbons is working on expanding the pilot project with the hope that further operational and automation upgrades will result in an additional partnership with MCCAC.
