Parks

Gibbons hosts ten parks, including seven playgrounds, two passive parks, and a sports grounds area.

Brumfit Park

Gibbons best kept secret, this park is located in the centre of Brumfit subdivision. This playground hosts a playground structure and individual pieces of equipment.

Located in the downtown area and the home of the Country Cone Ice Cream Store, this inter-generational park was refurbished as part of a millennium project. A playground structure, a gazebo and a picnic area have been constructed in this area as well as a memorial for victims of 9/11.

Echo Glen Park

    

This park includes over 2 km of natural walking trail along the Sturgeon River Valley. Echo Glen Park has a picnic area with outdoor cooking stoves and a fish pond that is stocked yearly with trout. Echo Glen Park is the home of the annual Fishing Derby held during Pioneer Days on the third weekend in July each year.

Gibbons Memorial Park

Located adjacent to Gibbons Memorial Gardens, this park is home to playground structures suitable for pre-teens.

Riverview Park

Located directly behind the Sturgeon Alliance Church, this park was completely replaced in 2011 with a historic themed playground that compliments the end of the River Valley Trail (part of the historic Athabasca Landing Trial).

Williams Park

Located in the Williams Park subdivision, this playground was outfitted with completely new playground structures in 2011. An impressive playground with a picnic table for families to gather.

Mile 26 Park

Located on 53 Avenue, and home to an impressive Communities in Bloom rock, this passive park was Mile 26 on the historic Athabasca Landing Trail. Take a picnic lunch and sit with your family reflecting on times from the past!

Oliver Park

This passive park is home to the Gibbons Museum. The museum is operated by the Sturgeon River Historic Society and hosts turn of the century buildings, equipment, tools and artifacts. The Museum is open from the May long weekend until the September long weekend and is the location of many summer events. Groups tours can be arranged by contacting the Town at 780.923.3331.

Poplar Park

Home to a Spray Park, tennis courts, basketball courts, a picnic area and play structure for pre-teens. The Spray Park opens seasonally from the long weekend in May until the long weekend in September.

Gibbons is home to a beautiful trail system that is situated in the Sturgeon River Valley.  The Town of Gibbons has established a Trail Services Committee made up of community volunteers.  The Town is working with the committee to help identify and prioritize maintenance items, future usage and possible long term expansion of the trail system to suit the needs of our growing community.
