About Us

The Town of Gibbons is strategically located at the junction of Highway 28 and 28A along the banks of the Sturgeon River, only minutes from Alberta’s Industrial Heartland in Sturgeon County. We offer a rural atmosphere with an urban setting situated less than a ½ hour North of downtown Edmonton. Our community places great pride on being a safe and friendly place in which to raise families and enjoy an outstanding quality of life Gibbons-“Living at its Best”.

     Our seven elected members of Council are committed to delivering good government, actively promoting the Town’s vision of a vibrant, innovative, safe, sustainable, and family-oriented community, with great people, great opportunity, and great community!

With a current population of 2848 and the majority being between the 25 – 40 age group, the community is committed to cooperative planning to ensure a continued quality of life for all. Gibbons boasts a diversity of housing styles to fit all lifestyles from condominium housing to acreage size properties. Current land developers within the Gibbons Town boundaries are Strata Developments, Landrex, Triple 5, residential and Prem Singhmar, plus Triple 5 light industrial/highway commercial .

     Along with the agricultural industry, Gibbons has some major businesses and industries within its boundaries or very close by; Gibbons Motor Toys, Finora Canada, Fort Hills Sturgeon Upgrader, Cheyenne Rig Repair & Supply Ltd., Evonik Degussa, Provident Williams, Agrium-Redwater Fertilizer Operation. With Surerus pipeline coming soon.

     Gibbons supports one grocery store, along with two convenience stores where vehicle fuel is also available.

     Education is through Landing Trail School (Kindergarten to grade four) and Gibbons School (grades five to nine). High School students are bussed to Sturgeon Composite High or Redwater High Schools. Post secondary education is available by attending any one of the great facilities in Edmonton.

     Medical facilities consist of two medical clinics, a dental office, laboratory, chiropractic centre, massage therapy, and a Capital Health Unit. Three hospitals are available within 15 miles of Gibbons.

     Spruceview Manor, the Seniors Lodge, has capacity to house forty-four residents, while Pinecrest Gardens contains eighteen self contained apartments.

     The Sunflower Community Program provides assistance to the community with learning about accessing resources in the community and surrounding area.

    Emergency services are supplied to Gibbons by the twenty-three member volunteer Gibbons Fire Department and the Bon Accord/Gibbons Ambulance provides 24 hour BLS (Basic Life Support) Service with ALS (Advanced Life Support) Intercept agreements. Policing is provided by the Morinville RCMP detachment. The Town also has Citizens on Patrol  and contracts Sturgeon County Bylaw Enforcement and Animal Control to enforce Town bylaws and Provincial Statutes.

    Religious organizations consist of Gibbons Anglican Church (100 year old), Gibbons/Coronado United Church, Gibbons Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and Sturgeon Alliance Church.
